You hear it all the time—don’t read to much into other peoples lives. After all, you really don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. Nevertheless, it does seem as if some people move seamlessly through life—from one expected stage to the next. Others, however, struggle to experience even the most basic and essential of what life is supposed to offer. Having, friends, a life partner, a family, a successful or meaningful career—or even simple joy and contentment are out of reach for so many. When you follow the rules and do the best you can, and nothing seems go your way, how do you keep going?
Spinning Your Wheels
If you feel as if life makes no sense, you’re not alone. You try to do everything the right way and the best you know how, yet things still fall apart. No matter what you do or how hard you try, life just refuses to cooperate.
You have to find a way to move past what you’re feeling and what you’re seeing. When you face difficulties, the normal course of action is to try to find where you went wrong. Understanding what mistake(s) contributed to your circumstances could lead to your breakthrough. However, you might never find the answer.
Playing the Hand You’re Dealt
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who’d say life is easy. However, there’s no denying that there are those of us who seem to have more than our fair share. You know all the sayings—you have to keep fighting, keep pushing, believe, pray, and never give up. What if you’ve been doing just that for years—decades, to no avail? Beyond resisting the nagging thought that you must be cursed, what do you do? How do you keep fighting when nothing seems to work?
Life often seems to be more about the luck of the draw. Some believe in fate or destiny, and, therefore, no matter what you do, there is a predetermined outcome. If that’s the case, you might think you’re in control, but you are in no way the one steering the ship. We’d all prefer to think we have some hand in the way our lives unfold. Whatever the case, we just have to do the best with what we have. All we can do is try our best, so we’ll be ready when opportunity comes knocking.
It Doesn’t Need to Make Sense
As a teenager and even in my twenties, regardless of countless negative experiences, disappointments, and strange experiences, I still expected that things would somehow fall into place. As I’ve watched the years speed by, not much has changed. Life makes even less sense, and its challenges have more serious implications.
It’s a common sentiment that the bad thrive and good suffer. It often seems as if people who aren’t worthy get the breaks or the opportunities. You’re not supposed to ask why or even question life’s mysteries —there’s no point, really. So, instead, you accept, focus on your needs, and believe that one day you’ll realize your dreams.
A Common Struggle
It’s pushed into your psyche that hard work and determination will get you where you need to be. That, if you do everything you’re supposed to, things will fall into place. That, however, is not quite the case. There are too many factors that can enter the mix and alter the equation.
Of course, you get it that you are not alone—that there are others facing incredible battles. However, that in no way lessens or removes your pain—especially when you’ve been fighting for so long. As cliched as it may sound, the fact remains that as bad as you have it, you’re still better off than most.
Giving Up Is Not an Option
So when you keep trying and nothing works, what else is left? It’s frustrating when you’re doing the best you can, all you know to do, and you get nothing in return. As much as sometimes you’d like to throw up your hands in defeat, that’s not an option. You can hope God, the powers that be, or the universe, will take pity on you and save you.
If luck or divine intervention don’t move your way, things will likely get worse. You have no choice but to press and keep pressing. If you keep trying, at least there’s still a chance. Even if you feel you’re fighting in vain, you have no choice but to go on. Otherwise, you’d have eroded all opportunity to improve your circumstances. So how do you keep going when nothing seems to go your way? You just keep going. Silence the noise of your emotions, and just keep going.
